CompanyInspire Research Ltd
Job TitleDirector
Job DescriptionAs co-director of a small research consultancy firm, my job role has to involve a bit of everything - from business things like accounting, administration and sales to 'real' work like planning, implementing and reporting on our research/evaluation/consultancy projects.
Career SkillsSkills I have developed during my studies (BA Hons Psychology and MRES)and work life include:
- project management
- qualitative research techniques (f2f, telephone, online interviews, focus groups, discussion analysis etc)
- quantitative research techniques (including online and paper based questionnaires)
- dissemination skills (report writing, article production, verbal presentations, etc)
- communication skills (spoken and written)
- online facilitation and event management
- topic specific expertise (realting to e-learning and traditional learning - policy, practice and evaluation)
Career InterestI suppose my main interest is in gathering, providing and using evidence to enable improvements in learning experiences. That could be looking at the student experience, or how teachers can improve their lessons, how trainers can increase impact, how organisations can improve their processes....
Work HistoryI've held several research positions within Higher Education Institutions here in the UK. The most recent was with the Scottish Centre for Research into OnLine Learning and Assessment (SCROLLA), where I was lucky enough to work on a wide variety of research projects in Scotland, the UK and Europe. After leaving SCROLLA we set up Inspire Research where we have undertaken projects across an even wider spectrum of areas.
