What role should Skilling Guilds fill for OSRS?
With regard to the recent post regarding Skilling Guilds (Guilds not

focusing on combat-related Skills) from a recent QnA discussion, I was

interested to know what the opinions of the community are on Guilds in

OSRS. I personally feel that there are three standard criteria to judge

what I should expect from Skilling Guilds:

The desire to utilize the Guild to enhance your skill I believe there

should be some sort of incentive for the player to actually utilize the

Guild's facilities , with the primary goal of growing your knowledge of

the skill. This is reasonable since it is logical that a Guild will

probably prefer to see their members develop and improve in their field

as a Guild can be a good place to refine one's skills, and to enhance

the possible knowledge retained by the Guild by having a large number

of skilled members who travel across the globe. The Woodcutting Guild

is a good example of this because of its forest biodiversity as well as

the invisibility +7 Boost . However, the Crafting Guild is a bad

example of this because it is only used for the bank vault (Although

I'll be honest, I'm not sure of the desirability that could be applied

to a Production Based skill such as Crafting without being a bit

controversial).

Unique or Exclusive Content: I imagine a place designed for the top of

the best in a certain specialization would have unique or exclusive

features as a result of possessing a substantial amount of members that

claim skill mastery. With a large portion of those who have expertise

in the field of adventure so it's only natural that they would seek out

and lay claim to rare finds which would benefit the Guild and broaden

its knowledge. In the case of the Farming Guild is a great example of

this being done effectively, based on my experience with the Hespori

Patch as well as the Celastrus Patch, and the Redwood Patch. But, this

Fishing Guild is a great illustration of this being used improperly. A

Fishing Boss located in the middle of the Desert instead of the guild

to Fishers was a sorely wasted opportunity (Although fighting a

gigantic Catfish within the center of the lake might look pretty cool

if it was done correctly and would fit better than just splashing

people around a little more).

A Hub for Players aiming towards, or already having Skills Mastery A

Guild should possess a somewhat social element including the

possibility of introducing Skilling Clans or an announcement board at

which Guild members can make requirements and receive certain rewards.

I think that OSRS should have Guilds serve as hubs for players who wish

to apply their skill mastery or wish to possess mastery over their

skills as an idea of course and that could include increasing the

social component of the players in this aspect as opposed to simply

increasing pedestrian traffic over the initial two points. Ideally,

this should include players helping other players, a nicety I think is

a good idea to incorporate into Guilds to serve as a space for giving

instruction.

Tell me what you think of the issues I mentioned in relation to my

expectations regarding Guilds or if there is anything you think I'm

required to clarify, share your thoughts about the significance of

Guilds in OSRS. In all honesty, I think it would be interesting to see

greater importance assigned for something with the potential to be so

powerful. Even though this article doesn't address Combat Oriented

Skills, I want to know what people think about the need to address

those Guilds as well.
