Jagex joined forces with the developer of the cult RuneScape Gold mod RuneLite HD to make the HD version available for players of all ages. Steamforged's new board game will provide the RuneScape community with a new opportunity to explore Gielinor's world Gielinor and design their own adventures.
Runescape developer Jagex's publishing division has picked up a promising indie title for Jagex Partners. Jagex Partners Label, making Melvor Idle an indie now. The idler game, which is similar to games such as Clicker Heroes or Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms, was released on Steam last year and wears its inspirations from Jagex's most popular game Runescape very proudly.
Melvor Idle is a detailed multi-track idle game which strives to reinvent "the fundamental elements from the RuneScape franchise in a manner so that they can be enjoyed in a casual manner," says the publisher. It's a very high-quality idle game which offers a wide range of things to craft and develop, as well being a focus on avoiding games that have prestige mechanics that need a restart.
Jagex apparently became aware of the game in the early part of 2020. It was also evident that a large portion of the staff at the publisher loved it even before its launch. "Being in a position to collaborate on this with Jagex in direct collaboration on the game has been a dream come true," said Brendan Malcolm who is the sole developer of Melvor Idle studio Games by Malcs.
Malcolm posted a lengthy Q&A to his game's Reddit community, explaining that he'd maintain full creative control in the future and that the game's single-purchase model of monetization wouldn't be altered. Jagex claimed that they did not have "no intention" to change anything about Melvor Idle. The publishing agreement will see Jagex as the sole provider of localisation, marketing, tech support and QA for Melvor Idle.
