The RuneScape community did not enjoy the notion back then, and they don't enjoy it today. A subreddit devoted to OSRS has slammed the notion repeatedly over the last week. Many users are asserting that this brings the game one step closer to getting full blown microtransactions. Others see this as"microtransactions by means of a third party," since players that have paid to become spouses with another firm are rewarded with exclusive products.
Happily Jagex, the developers of OSRS, have said they will not add any new content to the game without polling the community. This can be accomplished with an in-game voting booth where members may throw their virtual ballots.
